18 Things That Will Instantly Boost Your Mood

Recently, I have seen lots of people talking about how they are suffering from a serious case of January blues. The magic of Christmas has worn off, the New Years celebrations have passed and suddenly it’s very quiet with a bump back to reality.I personally always feel optimistic around this time of year, a chance for a fresh start with a positive mindset. A chance to reflect on the year gone and dream of the one to come.I know not everyone feels this way at this time of year though so today, I’ve rounded up 18 of my favourite instant mood boosters in case you’re in need of a little pick-me-up. Sometimes life can be stressful and overwhelming, but I’ve always been a firm believer that focusing on the little things can make a big difference. These things work all year long and help me live a beautiful life that I am in love with.

All of these tips are pretty simple and easy to put into practice, but it’s the simple things make me happy and make a difference long term.

Take a shower, or hot bath. The warm water will relax your muscles and the running water can be very calming to your mind. Use your favourite products and afterwards you will feel refreshed and amazing!

Phone a friend. Calling a good friend or loved one to connect and have a chat is such a boost booster.


Listen to upbeat music. Listen to your favourite songs that make you feel good and bring back amazing memories. This always motivates me and there’s a handful of songs that I know can always bring a smile to my face.

Take time out. Spending time outdoors is a great way of brightening your mood. Get some natural light and fresh air.

Sweat it out. Exercise gives you something to focus on other than the negative thoughts spinning around your head. Plus you will get a boost from released endorphins.

Breath. “deep breaths are like little love notes for your body” love this quote! Focus on your breath and breathe deeply. Pay attention to nothing other than your breathing and just be mindful in the moment. Try this for 5 minutes, or every time you begin to feel yourself becoming overwhelmed.Organise and clean out your space. This could be your room, makeup collection, wardrobe or desk. I love doing this, such a great sense of satisfaction, when everything looks clean and tidy afterwords.

Make a cup of tea. There’s something so soothing and comforting about a mug of tea. My favourites are green, peppermint and ginger.

Prepare yourself a healthy meal or snack. Something nourishing that you love and will make you feel amazing. Your body really is a temple, show it some love.

Be Grateful. Write down the things that make you happy and that your grateful for.

Burn your favourite candle.  And curl up with an amazing book. I love this one this one.

Online Detox. Go through your phone and social media accounts and delete anyone who doesn’t make you feel good, lifted or inspired.

Buy some fresh flowers. It’s no secret how much I love flowers if you follow me on Instagram. I love to start my week with a fresh bunch of flowers. I think it’s a pretty inexpensive way to brighten your home and make you feel good. I just feel happier when there are flowers and greenery in the room.

Pamper. Use your favourite face mask or give yourself a manicure

Make plans. Something you can get excited about. Even something as simple as a coffee with a friend.

Do something nice for somebody else. Doing an act of kindness for someone else is a great way to get a mood boost.

Smile. Even if you don’t feel like it, smile. ” When you laugh or smile it triggers a part of your brain that actually makes you happy

Walk it out. A short walk gets the heart pumping and will decrease stress.

Of course I still I with lots of ups and downs, but I can share what works for me when I need a boost with hopes that it may work for you as well.
