Baked doughnuts are my favourite treat. You may have noticed from my recent posts, red velvet doughnuts recipe, carrot cake doughnuts recipe and almond butter and chocolate doughnuts recipe that I am totally obsessed!

I make some form of baked doughnuts recipe every weekend. I find if I know that I have these to look forward to I can resist all the unhealthy treats throughout the week!

They actually taste great as they are straight from the pan, but I like to top with a homemade chocolate sauce and add cacao nibs, coconut and goji berries for a more indulgent feel.

Ingredients 

For the doughnuts

  • 1 1/4 cups flour (I used buckwheat)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar ( I used coconut)
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 chia egg
  • 2/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup milk (I used almond)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp cacao powder

For the chocolate sauce

Method

For the doughnuts

  • Heat oven to 350°F/175c
  • Lightly spray 6-cup doughnut pan with cooking spray
  •  In medium bowl, stir together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, cacao powder, cinnamon and nutmeg with whisk.
  • In a separate bowl beat chia egg, coconut oil, milk, and maple syrup, with a whisk.
  • Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients; fold until just combined. 
  • Spoon the mixture into the doughnut pan filling about a 1/4
  • Bake on centre oven rack 10 to 12 minutes or until doughnuts are golden around edges and spring back when touched.
  • Remove from oven, repeat with remaining batter

For the chocolate sauce

  • whisk together the maple syrup and cocoa powder, until combined

    These look great! I checked out your other donuts as well. Super yummy looking! so much healthier than a donut shop as well!
