Matcha green tea has been all over the health scene recently. It has been creating a huge buzz and has been labelled ‘The Next Big Thing’.

Pictures of Instaworthy ceramic bowls, bamboo whisks and beautiful shots of Matcha Green Tea Latte’s have been popping up all over Instagram.

What is Matcha Tea?

Matcha is green tea leaf that has been grinded to a powder form. It is an ancient ritual in Japan but is becoming more and more popular in the West. It has become loved for it’s health benefits.

What are the Health Benefits of Matcha?

As Matcha Green Tea uses the whole leaf you get more benefits then regular green tea. Here are some of the coveted health benefits of matcha green tea.

Antioxidants: Matcha green tea contains high levels of antioxidants that help to protect the body from cancer, inflammation and free radicals.

L-theanine; Matcha contains L-theanine which is an amino acid belived to calm the mind and relax the body.

ECGC: The ECGC found in Matcha temporarily speeds up your metabolism and burns more calories. Depending on the quality of Matcha it can contain 137 times more the ECGC found in regular green tea.

It is also believed to lower cholesterol and blood sugar and detoxifies the body in a natural way. Matcha contains vitamin C, zinc, magnesium, selenium, chromium plus lots of fibre and chlorophyll.

Due to the caffeine boost this gives you the perfect boost and energy for your day and is perfect before a workout. And due to it’s calming properties this won’t give you the jitters.

Is Matcha Worth the Hype?

Matcha contains lots of benefits to your health. As it contains more powerful properties then regular green tea I think it’s definatley worth reaching for your whisk. Matcha is quite expensive to buy but you only use a little bit each time so it lasts for ages.

I have been making a green tea latte every day recently, really gives you a nourishing boost! I enjoy at breakfast on weekdays or after lunch on the weekends. Perfect to relax and focus on work and productivity.

How to Make Matcha Green Tea Latte?

  1. Add 1-2 tsp of Matcha to your cup
  2. Add a little hot water to your cup and stir with a spoon or whisk together
  3. Add more hot water and some milk (I use almond) and stir/whisk again until combined and frothy.
