I’ve made this Date Walnut and Banana Loaf Cake so many times since first testing the recipe. it’s just so easy but so delicious and healthy. It only takes five minutes to throw together and then all you need to do is let it bake. You also don’t need any equipment, just one mixing bowl and a loaf tin!

The easy moist banana bread is perfectly sweet as it’s infused with dates, maple syrup, banana and cinnamon but the walnuts and buckwheat flour ensure that it doesn’t get too sickly. I think its makes the perfect breakfast, snack or even a dessert. It tastes amazing on it’s own, or warmed up. My favourite way to enjoy though is either drizzled with maple syrup o nut butter with fresh fruit on top.

This date walnut banana bread recipe, is vegan, gluten free, dairy free and contains no refined sugar.

Filled with crunchy walnuts the dates and bananas provide natural sweetness.

Date Walnut and Banana Loaf Cake Ingredients

  • buckwheat flour  ( purpose flour will work too )
  • mashed bananas
  • almond milk
  • walnuts
  • maple syrup
  • chopped dates (I use medjool dates)
  • cinnamon

Add Ins

Some optional add ins for your banana date nut bread.

  • vanilla extract – add 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  • chocolate chips – add a handful of chocolate chips for extra indulgence
  • extra banana – chop up a banana into coins and add on top of your healthy banana bread recipe before baking
  • extra walnuts – add extra walnuts on top of the loaf for a nice crunch
  • brown sugar – sprinkle some brown sugar on  top of the walnut loaf gives this date loaf recipe a nice, sweet crunch

How To Make Walnut Banana Date Bread

Follow these simple steps to make banana date bread. Full recipe details in the recipe card at the end of this post.

  1. Start by pre-heating the oven to 140c or 285 degrees f
  2. Prepare a pan with nonstick spray, coconut oil or greaseproof paper
  3. Add  the dry ingredients ( flour and cinnamon ) into a large mixing bowl and mix everything together.
  4. Mash your overripe bananas in a bowl and add in the almond milk and maple syrup
  5. Add the banana mixture into the flour mixture then add in the chopped dates and chopped walnuts.
  6. Pour the mixture into your prepared loaf pan
  7. Place in the oven to bake for about forty minutes, until the top is a golden brown.
  8. Take out the oven and let the bread cool completely on a wire rack before enjoying

How To Store Date Walnut and Banana Loaf

If you’re planning to eat your Date Walnut and Banana Loaf within three to four days, it can be left out at room temperature. To keep it fresh, place a paper towel in the bottom of an airtight container.

To store Date Walnut and Banana Loaf in the fridge, wrap it in plastic wrap, making sure the entire loaf is covered. Place the wrapped banana bread in an airtight container. It will last in the fridge for five days.

 Banana cake freezes really well. Once the loaf is fully cooled, wrap the entire loaf of date walnut and banana loaf  it in plastic wrap. Then, wrap it in aluminum foil. Store in your freezer for up to three months.

A simple recipe for a delicious date walnut and banana loaf with lots of flavor and perfect tetxure.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 and 1/2 cups of buckwheat flour 300g
  • 2 medium bananas mashed
  • 1/3 of a cup of almond milk 100ml
  • 1/3 cups of chopped walnuts
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 3/4 cup chopped dates
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Instructions
 

  • Start by pre-heating the oven to 140c or 285 degrees f
