Banana Chocolate Pancakes

An easy recipe for Banana chocolate pancakes made with just four simple ingredients that you probably already have at home!

Get some overripe bananas lying around? Instead of making banana bread, try these delicious banana chocolate pancakes instead.

These banana chocolate pancakes are my favourite weekend breakfast. So yummy and delicious, simple to make with only four ingredients needed.

You can mix all the ingredients together by hand but I like to use the blender to make it even simpler.

The best part is these banana chocolate pancakes are healthy with only nourishing, wholesome ingredients. They are suitable for vegans, diary free and gluten free.

They are soft, fluffy and slightly crispy on the edges, which is just how I like them. They are really filing too and keep me going for hours.

If you love banana bread then you need to give these fluffy pancakes a go. The bananas add natural sweetness without being too overpowering flavor wise. You can also add some chocolate chips to make chocolate chip banana pancakes.

They are really quick to make so perfect for busy mornings. There is no added sugar making these pancakes kid friendly.

These pancakes are also made with oat flour and no butter, making them a healthier option compared to other pancake recipes. Oats are are great source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, making these pancakes not only delicious but also nutritious and filling.

Banana Chocolate Pancakes Ingredients

To make these deliciously fluffy pancakes you need the following simple ingredients:

Bananas – overripe bananas are best Chia eggs – can sub for flax egg, egg substitute or normal eggs. To create a flaxseed or chia seed egg replacement, just combine 1 tablespoon of finely ground flaxseed or chia seeds with 3 tablespoons of water. Allow it to sit for a few minutes until it achieves a thicker consistency, and then employ it as a stand-in for a single egg.

Oats – use gluten free oats if necessary. Any oats will work as we blend this into an oat flour. Can sub for whole wheat flour

Cocoa powder – I used unsweetened

Toppings – Your favourite toppings

Optional Addin Ins

Chocolate chips – add some mini chocolate chips to make banana chocolate chip pancakes. The melty chocolate chips give even more chocolate flavor

Vanilla Extract – add 1 tsp for extra flavor

Baking powder – for extra fluffy chocolate pancakes

Vegan Chocolate Banana Pancakes Toppings

Try adding some of these onto the top of the pancakes

  • More banana slices
  • Vegan butter
  • Chocolate spread
  • Peanut Butter
  • Fresh berries
  • Dairy-free whipped cream
  • Chopped nuts
  • Cinnamon and sugar
  • Caramelized bananas

How to Make Banana Chocolate Pancakes

Here’s how to make the best pancakes, full details in the recipe card at the end of this post

  • Add the wet ingredients, the banana and the chia eggs into a blender and blend until smooth
  • Add the dry ingredients, oats and cocoa and blend again until fully combined
  • If you don not have a blender, start by mashing the bananas then add the dry ingredients before adding the wet ingredients mixing gently to work out any lumps.
  • Transfer about 1 tbsp of the pancake batter (depending on how big you want your pancakes) to a pan on medium-low heat, use a little coconut oil, olive oil, or melted butter if required
  • Cook for around three minutes, flip and cook the other side
  • Repeat until all the mixture is used
  • Serve as a single layer on a plate or make a pancakes stack and add your chosen toppings on tops of the pancakes
  • Store leftover pancakes in an airtight container in the fridge for a couple of days.  To reheat the pancakes from the fridge, add them to a hot skillet for a few minutes on each side, microwave for around 20 to 30 seconds, or add them in a toaster.
  • These chocolate banana pancakes will freeze well for up to 3 months. Let them cool then place them in an airtight container or freezer bag and place them in the freezer. To reheat straight from the freezer, add pancakes in the toaster for 2 cycles and they should be heated throughout. Or wait for them to defrost and warm them up as above

  • 3 ripe bananas
  • 2 chia eggs
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder


  • Cut the banana into chunks and put into blender along with the chia eggs and blend until smooth
  • Add the oat and cocoa and blend again until fully combined
  • Transfer about 1 tbsp of mixture (depending on how big you want your pancakes) to a pan on medium heat, use a little coconut oil if required

I like the recept but what are chia eggs?

Chia eggs are an egg replacement, made from freshly ground flax or chia seeds. Whisk together the ground seeds with water until well combined, then place in the fridge to set for 15 minutes. Normal eggs will work though. x
