My way is quick and easy too. I used elastic instead of the shoelace. I sewed a button either side of the zip, cut a hole in the end of the elastic and slipped it over the button. The benefit of the elastic is it has some give.

This was actually an amazing trick. Since it has been over 10 years since I bought denim, I bought the wrong size (1 size too big). They are stretch jeans, and the waist was just too big. I tried it and it works great with the shoelace - saving me $$$ on a tailor. I much prefer this hack! Thanks!!
