Cherry Bakewell tart is such a classic British dessert that you’ll find served everywhere, from cake shops, fancy restaurants, and coffee shops. It’s one of my absolute favourites!

Today I am giving this recipe a cherry bakewell tart makeover. I’m obsessed with this tart recipe and have made it on the last three Sunday’s in a row!

A healthy cherry bakewell tart that is gluten free and vegan. This sweet treat is made from only nourishing good for you ingredients. Easy and simple to make.

Think of your favourite big slice of cherry bakewell tart, Nourish your Glow style, without all the nasties and totally healthy and good for you! The original recipe contains lots of sugar and fat.

Unlike traditional bakewell tart this recipe won’t leave you feeling bloated and heavy. In fact this feels really light, whilst being satisfying at the same time.

Easy to whip up, delicious to eat, this will rid you of your craving whilst giving you a dose of nourishing ingredients.

This recipe contains no refined flours, just lots of nuts and coconut flour, to make the base and the topping. With a cherry chia jam that makes up the jammy layer. Sweetened only with maple syrup! Low carb, full of protein from the eggs, almonds, and chia seeds and lot of fibre too thanks to the coconut flour!

This is something that you, your friends and family can all enjoy guilt free!

Ingredients Needed For Cherry Bakewell Recipe

Dry Ingredients

  • oat flour –  I used gluten free oats, can sub for plain flour
  • chia seeds
  • ground almonds – almond flour can be found in most grocery and health food stores
  • baking powder
  • flaked almonds for topping

Wet Ingredients

  • chia egg – can use flax eggs or normal eggs
  •  almond milk – any milk will work
  • agave syrup – can also use maple syrup on honey
  • coconut oil melted – can sub for melted butter
  • fresh cherries pitted

Optional Addins and Ammendments

  • almond extract – add 1 tsp of almond essence into the frangipane layer for extra flavor
  • different jams – experiment with different jam fillings, try raspberry jam or apricot jam
  • mini bakewell tarts – assemble the vegan cherry bakewells in a muffin tin to make mini cherry bakewell tarts
  • white icing – top with sweet icing by mixing icing sugar and milk together

How to Make Cherry Bakewell tart

Here’s how to make this vegan bakewell tart, full recipe details and detailed instructions can be found in the recipe card at the end of this post

  • Preheat oven to 180c/350f
  • Firstly make the cherry chia jam- add all the ingredients to a saucepan over a low heat, stirring and mashing the cherries. Leave to cool for five minutes to thicken up
  • Then make the base by mixing all ingredients to together in a large bowl, press the mixture into lightly greased cake tin or tart tin
  • Make the vegan frangipane layer by mixing all ingredients together in a large mixing bowl
  • Add a layer of cherry jam on top of the base and  top with the frangipane mixture.
  • Top with flaked almonds to decorate
  • Bake for around 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  • Leave to cool completely before removing from the cake tin or tart pan and enjoying
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature, will stay fresh for 2-3 days

Healthy Cherry Bakewell Frangipane Tart

Ingredients
  

For the base

  • 2 cup oat flour I used gluten free oats
  • 6 tbsp agave syrup
  • 4 tbsp coconut oil melted

For the Cherry chia jam

  • 1.5 cup Cherries pitted
  • 2 tbsp chia seeds
  • 4 tbsp agave syrup
  • 4 tbsp water

For the frangipane layer

  • 1.3 cup ground almonds
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • A pinch of salt
  • 2 chia egg
  • 6 tbsp agave syrup
  • 4 tbsp coconut oil melted
  • 2 tbsp almond milk
  • handful of flaked almonds for topping

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 180c/350f
