An immune boosting tonic to naturally help you through the cold and flu season. Containing ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper, Manuka honey, cinnamon and lemon.
Struggling with the sniffles? If you’re like me, I always manage to catch an annual cold. It usually sneaks up on me when I’m stressed or busy.
What’s an immune-boosting tonic, you ask? Well, it’s pretty self-explanatory: it’s a concentrated combo of immune boosting foods. Each food has its own healing properties to address specific cold symptoms.
This tonic contains:
Ginger– is antibacterial so it helps support the immune system and it can help to prevent nausea and soothe an upset stomach. Also is anti-inflammatory, supports digestion, and is rich in antioxidants.
Turmeric– has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties
Cayenne Pepper– contains the chemical capsicum, a rich source of vitamin C that aids your immune system in fighting colds and flus. The heat raises your body’s temperature to make you sweat, increasing the activity of your immune system.
Manuka Honey– is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, rich in antioxidants, strengthens immune system, and is anti-inflammatory.
Cinnamon– Rich in antioxidants that fight inflammation and boosts immunity
Lemon– Is alkalising, supports digestion, boosts immune system, rich in vitamin C
Recipe- Immune Boosting Tonic
- 1 cup water
- ¼ tsp raw grated ginger
- ¼ tsp turmeric
- Dash cayenne pepper
- 1 tsp Manuka honey
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- ½ a lemon
- Add the water, turmeric, ginger, lemon, cinnamon and cayenne pepper to a pot and bring to a boil. Do not add the honey yet! It will kill all of its active ingredients, which is not what you want.
- Once the mix has boiled, let it simmer for 10-12 minutes.
- Strain and add the honey. If you’re sniffly, breathe in the concoction at this point! The cayenne will work its magic.
- Sip away! Bye bye cold.
I hope you enjoy this immunity boosting tonic recipe! How else do you push through a cold?
