The Simple Things That Make Me Happy

We often daydream about big things like going on a tropical vacation, buying a luxury car or winning the lottery and how happy we would be if we had them. If these things seem far away, the good news is that we don’t actually need any of these things to find happiness.

A new survey reveals that it’s  actually the simple things that make us feel happy. It’s so important to make time to enjoy the little things and live a positive, humble and happy life.

Sometimes life can get crazy and it’s difficult to find the time to do the good things that brings us joy. But taking some time out to appreciate and be grateful for simple pleasures can really help you stay positive and happy. Deep down, it doesn’t take much to make us happy, and it’s the small things that always bring a smile to our faces.

SIMPLE THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPY

Happiness is a subjective emotion that can be influenced by various factors. While some people may seek happiness in big achievements or material possessions, it is often the simple things in life that bring us the most joy.

Add some of these small things into your daily routine to give your mental health a boost.

Simple Things That Make Me Happy

These are the simple things that make me happy, I always make sure a few of these things are on my weekly to-do list so I always get a little boost throughout the week.

Rain

That cosy feeling of being indoors when it’s raining outside, and you’re warm and cozy inside, with nowhere you have to go. It’S so relaxing listening to the rain hit the roof or window. Perfect for watching films, reading a good book, having your favourite snacks and snuggling.

Exploring

Most people love travelling and a favourite thing to do is go to a new place you have never been before and explore. Even if it’s just a new route on the way home or trying out a new cafe, it’s so much fun to take a break from your usual surroundings and and a great way to reconnect with yourself.

Summer

The warm weather, longer nights, the clothes, food, waking up early and seeing the sun already out. Being outside in the sunshine, is such a great feeling, we feel so much more alive and free in the summer months. And even in the colder months, blue skies make us much happier and positive.

Bath Time

A long hot soak in the bath can help you really unwind and relax. Use your favourite products for extra pampering.

Healthy Food

We all feel better when we’re eating a healthier diet. It helps energise you and stops you feeling heavy and bloated. Try out some healthy recipes and find some new healthy food inspiration.

Loved Ones

Spending time with loved ones can instantly boost your mood. Finding someone who you have a true connection with, who supports you in all that I do is one of the greatest gifts you can have in life.

Whether scheduling a coffee with your best friend or calling a family member, social time is important and will help you feel connected.

Nature’s artwork, that take our breath away every time.  Stop, look and take it all in, every time you see one.

Flowers

Having flowers round your home or even plants can bring so much happiness. They bring so much life and joy to a room. In fact it’s been scientifically proven that having flowers around your home can make you feel less depressed and anxious. If you are single, don’t wait for someone to get you flowers.

If you like flowers, by some for yourself- don’t wait around for someone else to bring you happiness.

Enjoying the Little Pleasures

Often, it’s the small things that can bring us the greatest happiness. Taking a moment to savor a delicious cup of coffee, enjoying a long hot bath, or cuddling up with a good book can provide us with a much-needed break from our busy lives and create moments of pure bliss to turn around a bad day.

Burning candles can be so relaxing and soothing, especially when they have an amazing scent.

Lots of Sleep

Consistently getting enough sleep is such a simple thing but can make a huge difference to our happiness levels. Sleep deprivation can cause anxiety, irritability and reduce our energy levels.

 Small acts of Kindness

Acts of kindness always spread happiness whether you are giving or receiving. If you want to instantly feel happier and feel greater life satisfaction then do something small for someone else.

When you help others and helping hand, you will not only feel a happier person yourself, the person you help levels of happiness will also increase.

Mindfullness

Meditation is often described as an important habit for improving focus, clarity, and attention span, as well as helping to keep you calm. Which in turn improves your happiness. Taking a few moments everyday to focus on the present, take a deep breath and be grateful can have a huge impact on your mood.

Practice saying daily affirmations to yourself to improve your self talk and positive emotions.

Practice gratitude with a gratitude journal is a great way to write down your positive thoughts for a happier life.

Having something to Look forward too

 Having something to look forward to gives you a purpose in life and something to be excited for. Setting yourself goals, working towards them and achieving them is an amazing feeling of accomplishment that makes you feel happy and satisfied.

Get Outside

Even just a few minutes of fresh air can really lighten your mood. A fast long walk or even a bike ride can get your heart pumping and reduce stress.

Have a laugh

When you laugh, your body releases happy hormones called oxytocin and endorphins. These hormones uplifts and make us feel good. Watch films that make you giggle and spend time with people that make you smile.

Declutter

A clean organised space can make you feel and relaxed. When you’re not having to run around looking for items you can’t find, and when everything has its own place, you’ll feel be less stressed and in a better mental state.

Finding Joy in Nature

Spending time in nature has a profound effect on our well-being and happiness. Whether it’s taking a leisurely walk in the park, hiking in the mountains, or simply sitting by the beach, immersing ourselves in the beauty of the natural world can uplift our spirits and bring a sense of peace and tranquility.

Engaging in Self-Care

Prioritizing self-care is essential for our overall well-being and happiness. Engaging in activities that nourish our mind, body, and soul, such as practicing meditation, exercising, or indulging in hobbies, allows us to recharge and rejuvenate ourselves. Taking care of ourselves enables us to show up as our best selves and experience greater happiness. Even something as simple as painting your nails can give you a boost.

Smile

Happy people smile more and that is a fact! Results of this study showed that even a fake smile can legitimately reduce stress and lower your heart rate. So even if you’re full of negative emotions smiling is the best way for an instant boost.

Personal Passions

Discovering and pursuing our passions brings a profound sense of fulfillment and happiness. Whether it’s painting, writing, cooking, or playing a musical instrument, engaging in activities that ignite our creativity and bring us joy allows us to express ourselves fully and find deep satisfaction in our endeavors.

Music

Music has the power to evoke emotions and transport us to different states of mind. Listening to our favorite song can instantly bring positive feelings. Even playing a musical instrument can be a source of immense joy and relaxation. The melodies and rhythms have a way of connecting with our souls and bringing a sense of happiness and serenity.

Appreciating Good Food

Food has the ability to nourish not only our bodies but also our souls. Taking the time to savor and appreciate a delicious meal, trying new flavors and cuisines, and sharing meals with loved ones can create moments of happiness and connection.

Learning and Growing

Continuous learning and personal growth contribute to our overall happiness and fulfillment. Whether it’s acquiring new knowledge, developing new skills, or pursuing educational opportunities, the process of learning expands our horizons, boosts our confidence, and brings a sense of accomplishment and happiness.

Find Opportunities For Happiness

We are all busy and it may feel like there isn’t much time, to do the things that make you happy. Look at areas of your life where you can add positive things that make you happy and bring inner peace. Have a long commute to work? Instead of scrolling social media, listen to a uplifting podcast. Or read a few pages of you favorite book on your lunch break.

Move Your Body

You may not feel like it, put moving your body is a sure fire way to feel good. Even if it’s just for a short walk, the first step is always the hardest but remember how accomplished and refreshed you will feel after a bit of movement.
